About the Apple iPod Shuffle

Apple has now three main iPod models. The Apple iPod shuffle if you want to store music and data. The Apple iPod Nano if you want to store music, data and photos. The Apple iPod with Video if you want to store music, data, photos and video.

Apple iPod Shuffle 1GB
Time to mix things up. Meet iPod shuffle, the unpredictable new iPod. What will it play next? Can it read your mind? Can it read your moods? Load it up. Put it on. See where it takes you.

Random is the New Order
Welcome to a life less orderly. As official soundtrack to the random revolution, the iPod Shuffle Songs setting takes you on a unique journey through your music collection -- you never know what's around the next tune. Meet your new ride. More roadster than Rolls, iPod shuffle rejects routine by serving up your favorite songs in a different order every time. Just plug iPod shuffle into your computer's USB port, let iTunes Autofill it with up to 240 songs and get a new experience with every connection. The trail you run every day looks different with an iPod shuffle. Daily gridlock feels less mundane when you don't know what song will play next. iPod shuffle adds musical spontaneity to your life. Lose control. Love it.

DJ Your Day
If you favor cycling to a hip-hop soundtrack and snowboarding to a little electronica, Autofill iPod shuffle from a specific iTunes Playlist and roll. Download an album from the iTunes Music Store and listen to it in order before you Shuffle it into your collection. Or just drag and drop individual songs from iTunes onto iPod shuffle. With Play in Order mode, you manage the music. If things take a turn for the predictable, never fear. Turn iPod shuffle over, flip the slider to Shuffle and mix on the go.

About the Apple iPod with Video

Apple has now three main iPod models. The Apple iPod shuffle if you want to store music and data. The Apple iPod Nano if you want to store music, data and photos. The Apple iPod with Video if you want to store music, data, photos and video iPod with Video White

Apple Unveils the iPod with Video 30GB & 60GB
The new iPod, featuring a gorgeous 2.5-inch color screen, can display album artwork and photos, as well as play stunning video including music videos, video podcasts, home movies and television shows. The new iPod holds up to 15,000 songs, 25,000 photos or over 150 hours of video and is available in a 30GB model for $299 and a 60GB model for $399, with both models available in stunning white or black designs.

Witness the evolution of the revolution. First it played songs. Then photos. Then podcasts. Now iPod plays video, changing the way you experience your music and more. Again. In lighter, thinner 30GB and 60GB models starting at $299, the new iPod is music to your eyes.

Better Yet
Time for the world's best music player to take the stage for another encore. In 30GB and 60GB(1) models that hold up to 15,000(2) songs, full-color album art and up to 25,000 photos(3), the new iPod makes the most of your music and more. Yeah, you've heard that tune before. Only now, you can watch it, too. With support for up to 150 hours(4) of video and a 2.5-inch color display, the new iPod lets you take music videos and TV shows on the road.

More and Less
The new iPod boasts up to 20 hours of battery life(5), five hours more than before. Plus, you get a bigger display and one more iPod color — sleek black. But here's the kicker: At under half an inch thin, the new 30GB iPod takes up about 45 percent less room than the original iPod. Even the new 60GB model is 10 percent thinner than the fourth-generation 20GB iPod. More features in less space? Sounds like iPod.

Search for pods by keyword

A new service in Beta claims to be able to search the actual content of podcasts. Let Podzinger explain in their own words

Podcasts are rapidly emerging as a popular on-line audio publishing vehicle.  But trying to find podcasts that are of interest to us is reminiscent of the early days of the internet.  Instead of using general search techniques, sites attempted to organize all the content on the internet into categories.  The diversity of the available content became too cumbersome for mere categorization to be an effective means for people to find what they wanted.  Search evolved to where it is today, that is, to look inside websites quickly for words and phrases.

Podcasts have been subjected to the same primitive search through categorization ... until now.  PODZINGER looks inside podcasts, not just the metadata, letting you search podcasts in the same way that you search for anything else on the web.

When you type in a word or terms, PODZINGER not only finds the relevant podcasts, but also highlights the segment of the audio in which they occurred. By clicking anywhere on the results, the audio will begin to play just where you clicked.  There are also controls that let you back up, pause, or forward through the podcast.  Or you can download the entire podcast.

PODZINGER, powered by 30 years of speech recognition research from BBN Technologies , Cambridge, Massachusetts, transforms the audio into words, unlocking the information inside podcasts.  Using PODZINGER you open up a previously untapped source of content via a simple web search.  So when it comes to podcasts, instead of searching for it ... just   ZING IT!

 And why not!

Buying iPods on eBay

In a recent article by Anthony Bruno he states that

The popular iPod Nano and the just-released video iPod are expected to lead a surge of holiday sales for Apple Computer. Research firm Fulcrum Global Partners predicts Apple will sell 10 million iPods in the fourth quarter, a strong follow-up to the 7 million sold in the previous quarter. But not all of these sales will be to new iPod owners.

Piper Jaffray analysts say about 30 percent of the iPod purchasers are now repeat buyers who are either replacing an existing, earlier-generation iPod or adding to their range of styles (such as an iPod Shuffle and a video iPod).

Enter eBay. A recent search on eBay.com (201105) revealed that there were over 9000 Apple iPods for sale and over 53000 Apple iPod Accessories ( from armbands to earphones to covers and chargers) .

As reported on Reuters an interesting aspect is that people's "collections" are sometimes included in the sale - I wonder if this will be a way of adding value to a second-hand iPod in the future. Mentioned is the fact that:
Several iPods up for auction include the sellers' music collection and instructions on how to transfer the music from the iPod to the buyer's computer. Some even take requests for additional songs to be added prior to shipping.
One video iPod for sale contains an entire season of TV show "King of Queens" included.
However, despite what eBay says about how little fraud there is on their sites, in my opinion and from personal experience it is very much "buyer beware".

iPodBloggers.com provide innovative RSS feeds for finding suitable iPods on eBay. We have tried to filter out potential scammers but

Advantages of using RSS feeds

From the average iPodder's point of view the main advantage is one of time. Imagine having to trawl your way through dozens of websites to locate material that you may want to listen to. By subscribing to a favorite RSS feed in a feed reader you can in seconds browse the headlines of many sites and with one click you can be downloading the podcast.

You can subscribe to blogs (text based) as well as podcasts (an audio file) and vodcasts (a video file). It isn't necessary to understand or even know anything about the technology behind them - just do it! Download my favorite feed reader - Feed Demon or subscribe to an online version such as Bloglines and get going.

Once your reader is set up go to a specialist search engine such as Feedster find a few feeds you fancy, and then practice organizing your feeds into their Folders or Channels.

Let's try an example for keeping up with the news - Go to google news and put in a keyword - for our example i'll use "music downloads" - when the search results page comes back look for the RSS link - copy the URL and paste it in your reader.Try yahoo news - put in your keyword and repeat the process. With a little practice

For keeping up with blogs - Technorati is a favorite of mine. For audio pods and video pods see the iPod Bloggers list of search engines and directories.

You can set up many "alert" type feeds, whether it is a shopping alert or when a favorite podcast episode is updated. You'll find a huge selection at iTunes.
